Two suspects still sought in Tyendinaga home invasion, kidnapping, assault

OPP report that two of the four suspects wanted in connection with a home invasion, kidnapping and assault in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory have turned themselves in to police.

In addition to the four suspects initially at large, two others were already arrested.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Tyendinaga Police Service continue to ask for the public’s help to locate the two-remaining individuals.

In a media release, police explain that the incident happened on Jan. 28, at around 4:30 a.m., at a residence on Atsia Court on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. It was reported that several individuals entered the home, assaulted a male and took him away in a vehicle.

“He was assaulted again and was then dropped off in another part of the community,” the media release says.

The victim did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

Laura Lee Leween, age 42, and Jamie Kunkel, age 44, both from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, turned themselves in at the Napanee OPP Detachment over the weekend.

Leween is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon – two counts
  • Kidnapping – two counts
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Robbery with violence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Break and enter with intent to commit and indictable offence
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Disguise with intent

Kunkel is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon – two counts
  • Robbery with violence
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Kidnapping – two counts
  • Forcible confinement
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Theft under $5000

Arrest warrants remain outstanding for Patrick Lennox, age 37 of Napanee and Ashley Cummings, age 36 of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory for the charges of:

  • Assault with a weapon – two counts
  • Kidnapping – two counts
  • Forcible confinement
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Robbery with violence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Break and enter with intent to commit and indictable offence
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Disguise with intent

Charges have not been proven in court.

A previous media release also identified a 33-year-old and 41-year-old who were already in custody on similar charges.
