Traffic stop in Picton leads to impaired driving charge


Prince Edward County OPP have charged a Markham driver following a traffic stop in Picton.

Police state in a media release that on Wednesday, April 24, at around 9 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Picton Main Street.

During the stop, an approved screening device was administered, and “the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing,” police explain.

Aliya Karmali, age 32, from Markham was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

Charges have not been proven in court.

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
