Daryl Kramp, former MP and MPP for the Quinte area, passed away at 76 on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Kramp served as Member of Parliament for Hastings – Lennox and Addington from June 7, 2018 until May 3, 2022. Before that, he was Member of Provincial Parliament for Prince Edward – Hastings from June 28, 2004 until Aug. 4, 2015.

Prior to his political life, Kramp was an investigator with the Ontario Provincial Police. He was also a municipal councillor and deputy reeve in the municipality of Madoc, where he lived until his death.

Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams paid tribute to Kramp on Facebook.

“Daryl put family and faith first, but was also hospitality-centred with a love for our community,” Williams said. “I always admired how he treated his staff. He loved his wife, Carol Ann, and was an incredible family man.”

Williams also noted that “he was so very proud to see his daughter [Shelby Kramp-Neuman] in parliament.”

Daryl’s daughter Shelby is the current MP for Hastings—Lennox and Addington. In a social media post, she shared that her father enjoyed “a life of greatness lived with purpose, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.

“My guiding light, my mentor, my father; an exemplary soul whose impact will be felt for generations.”

In a statement posted to Facebook, former Belleville mayor Mitch Panciuk stated “Daryl was the best MP Belleville has ever known, hands down.”

“During the time Daryl served as our federal Member of Parliament, we received more support to advance our city than ever before,” Panciuk said. “You can literally see his fingerprints across our community for all he touched.

“We sure did have a lot of fun together,” Panciuk said, adding that ‘today we lost a gentle giant.”
