Three facing drug charges after traffic stop in Belleville

In a recent operation conducted on Jan. 23 just after 10 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Service’s “Project Renewal” investigation, alongside the K9 and Emergency Response Units, executed a vehicle stop at the intersection of Sidney Street and Dundas Street West in the City of Belleville. The operation was part of an ongoing Controlled Drug and Substances Act trafficking investigation.

The traffic stop yielded significant results, with officers seizing the following items:

  • Cocaine: 73.6 grams
  • Fentanyl: 31.4 grams
  • Methamphetamines: 0.3 grams
  • 6 Percocet pills
  • Canadian currency: $1385
  • American currency: $85
  • 4 cellular devices
  • Pepper spray
  • Drug paraphernalia

As a result of the investigation, charges were filed against three individuals. The below charges have not been proven in court.

  1. Temar Stevens, a 25-year-old resident of Scarborough, faced charges including possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamines, as well as possession of property obtained by crime. Additional charges included breach of release order (fail to reside with surety) and breach of probation (x3). Stevens was held for a bail hearing.
  2. Daniel Persaud, a 43-year-old Belleville resident, was charged with possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamines, along with possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation. Persaud, too, was held for a bail hearing.
  3. Jeffrey Bird, a 54-year-old Belleville resident, faced charges of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamines, as well as possession of property obtained by crime. Bird was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in February.
