Sutha’s Pizza Bar & Grill providing ‘an elevated pizza experience in Quinte West’

From fresh-never-frozen homemade dough to fine San Marzano Roma tomatoesfor the sauce, a new restaurant is plating Neapolitan-style pizza straight from its flaming hot wood-fired oven in Trenton.

Sutha’s Pizza Bar & Grill opened Nov. 1 at 79 E. Davis St., with its classic pizza and other pizza pie selections being enthusiastically enjoyed so far by the restaurant’s patrons, Jutson Tharmalingam, operations director, told Quinteist.

“So far, people in Trenton, they love us,” Tharmalingam said.

“They are very happy with the restaurant. It’s something new for them.”

Seasoned restaurateur Sutha Thurairajah has had a love for food from a young age, which initially whet his appetite for the restaurant industry and later moved him to make restaurant ownership his career, noted the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce. After moving from Whitby where he already owns several restaurants, Thurairajah “saw a need for an elevated pizza experience in Quinte West.

“I’m bringing the soul of Neapolitan cuisine to Trenton,” Thurairajah noted.

Tharmalingam said adding the Quinte West location made sense. “Trenton is right between Ottawa and Toronto. Maybe not right now, but we expect Trenton to be a major hub in the next 10 years,” he noted. “We see a lot of potential in that city.”

Sutha’s Pizza Bar & Grill makes everything fresh and in-house. The restaurant uses high-quality double-zero flour, San Marzano Roma tomatoes and Canadian cheeses. Tharmalingam said there isn’t anywhere in Trenton that uses authentic pizza recipes like theirs. They don’t pre-cook the tomato sauce, it’s cooked right on the pizza, in the oven that can reach up to 900 degrees Celsius. He said it’s an old recipe but it stands the test of time.

“We do classic Neapolitan pizza, but we know people in North America are used to pizzas with lots of cheese and lots of toppings.”

As a result, the menu features many different pizzas including pepperoni, fresh margherita, fungi and more. Some of the unique/speciality toppings include anchovies, pancetta bacon, spicy Soppressata and Calabrese salamis. There are vegetarian and vegan pizza options as well.

Sutha’s pizza is served in the restaurant’s dining room and is also available for pick-up or delivery.

Sutha’s is open seven days a week – Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
