In Stirling-Rawdon, a single vehicle collision has led to impaired driving charges for a local man.

The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on July 5, 2024, near the intersection of Bronson Rapids and Bateman Roads. The driver of a pick-up truck veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Emergency services, including officers from the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Stirling-Rawdon Fire Department, and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics, responded. There, they found a female passenger at the scene who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

The male driver initially fled the scene in the vehicle but was apprehended nearby after a foot pursuit. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the detachment for testing.

Christopher Childs, 23, from Centre Hastings, faces charges including operation while impaired by alcohol, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, and failing to comply with a probation order.

Following processing, Childs was released pending a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 25, 2024.
