The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has pressed charges against an individual for alleged dangerous driving and fleeing from police.

According to a media release, on Dec. 8, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program along Barcovan Beach Road in Quinte West. During the program, a vehicle was observed evading the checkpoint and departing the area. Efforts by officers to initiate a traffic stop were unsuccessful as the driver declined to comply, leading to the discontinuation of the pursuit. However, after an investigation, OPP managed to apprehend the driver involved.

Identified as Brian Burrows, a 22-year-old resident of Quinte West, the individual faces charges related to:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from a peace officer

Charges have not been proven in court.

Following arrest, the accused was released from custody and is slated to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 4, 2024.
