The reconstruction of Picton Main Street from Division Street to 300 metres north of McFarland Drive will begin on Monday, April 1, the County of Prince Edward reports in a media release.

Key components of the project include the installation of new underground infrastructure such as watermains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers. Additionally, the roadway will undergo extensive reconstruction, featuring a new concrete curb and gutters, concrete sidewalks, and a fresh asphalt roadway surface.

RW Tomlinson Limited, the appointed contractor for the undertaking, will execute the project in two phases to mitigate disruptions to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Phase 1, scheduled from April 1 to July 15, will focus on the section of Picton Main Street stretching from Division Street to McFarland Drive. During this phase, traffic diversions will be implemented to accommodate the construction activities. Through traffic on Picton Main Street between Johnson Street and McFarland Drive will be rerouted along Johnson Street, MacSteven Drive and McFarland Drive. However, access to properties between Division Street and McFarland Drive will be maintained, and Picton Main Street will remain open to local traffic between Johnson Street and Division Street.

Following the completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 is intended to take place from July 15 to November 29, encompassing the segment of Picton Main Street from McFarland Drive to 300 meters north. Throughout this phase, Picton Main Street will remain open to through traffic south of McFarland Drive. However, traffic north of McFarland Drive will be restricted to one lane, with traffic signals facilitating smooth flow during construction.
