OPP say that an altercation at a Prince Edward County event venue has resulted in one person facing criminal charges.

Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the Base31 event venue on Kingsley Road just before 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jun. 30, 2024. There, OPP officers say an individual had been restrained by private security staff.

“The investigation found that an intoxicated male had attempted to walk away from the event at that location,” OPP said in a release on the incident. “Security team members, concerned for the individual’s safety, offered to call a taxi to ensure he could get home safely. The male became confrontational and assaultive and was restrained.”

Jeffrey Douglass, 59 years old and of Prince Edward County, has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm

OPP say he was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Wednesday, Jul. 24, 2024.
