Man who fell asleep behind wheel at Belleville drive thru charged with impaired driving

A driver who dozed off while going through a drive thru at a North Front Street restaurant is now facing criminal charges.

Members of the Belleville Police Service were called to the business shortly before 1 a.m. after reports of a man asleep behind the wheel.

Police were eventually able to wake the man up, and an investigation determined he had consumed alcohol, police state in a media release.

Charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a sample of breath is Jason Burton Hughes, 45, of Deseronto.

Charges have not been proven in court.

Hughes was held until sober and released on an undertaking with a court date in July.

As per legislation, his licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
