Impaired driving charge, neighbour dispute lead to arrests in Belleville on Friday

Belleville police laid charges in two separate alcohol-related incidents on Friday, Aug. 28, including an early-morning collision that led to impaired driving charges and an evening dispute involving an intoxicated man.

Police were called to the intersection of Bridge Street East and Church Street at about 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 28 following a two-vehicle collision.

Police say one vehicle had struck another in the intersection. While speaking with the driver believed to be at fault, officers observed signs of impairment, according to a Monday, Aug. 31 media release.

Following an investigation, Brandon Curtis, 27, of Deseronto, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.

Charges have not been proven in court.

The suspect was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court in October.

Police say no serious injuries were reported.

Later that day, just after 6 p.m., police responded to a disturbance in Belleville’s east end after a dispute between neighbours reportedly became physical.

Police say a man approached another person outside a residence and began arguing with him before pushing him and repeatedly blocking him from leaving.

Officers who arrived at the scene determined the man was extremely intoxicated and advised the two parties to separate, according to the release.

Police say the man continued to be disruptive and indicated he intended to continue the behaviour.

A 65-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged under the Liquor Licence Control Act with being intoxicated in a public place.

He was released from police custody once sober.
