Impaired driver caught speeding through Belleville parking lot: police

A 36-year-old Quinte West man is facing impaired driving charges after an incident in a Belleville parking lot early Saturday morning.

The Belleville Police Service report in a media release that officers came upon an unexpected sight when, just before 1 a.m., they observed a truck speeding through the parking lot of a North Front Street business while responding to an unrelated call.

Police intercepted the vehicle on North Front Street, leading to an investigation and charges against the driver. Devon Scobie, 36, has been charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit. Charges have not been proven in court.

The vehicle has been impounded, and Scobie’s driver’s license has been suspended. He was released with a court appearance scheduled for April 11, 2024.
