Belleville Police say a Hastings-Quinte paramedic was assaulted while on duty and the patient they were treating will be facing charges as a result.

“On Tuesday, Jul. 2 2024 at 9:16 p.m. a Belleville Police officer on patrol in the area of Kegan Parkway located a man in distress, completely naked and under the influence of drugs,” Belleville Police said in a statement regarding the incident.

Hastings-Quinte Paramedics attended to treat and and transport the 35-year-old Belleville man to the hospital, but while in the ambulance, the male became assaultive, according to police, attempting to punch the paramedic and intentionally spitting on them.

Police say that at the hospital, the male continued to be assaultive toward paramedics and hospital staff.

The male was subsequently sedated and remained in the care of hospital staff.

According to police, a warrant has been requested for the male for one count of assault.  Police say the paramedic was not seriously injured.
