In a bid to declutter their homes and promote eco-conscious living, Quinte West residents are gearing up for the highly anticipated fall Giveaway Days event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22.

This community-driven initiative encourages locals to part ways with unwanted but usable household items while exploring the possibility of finding hidden treasures left by their neighbours.

All residents are invited to participate by placing their gently used household items on the curb in front of their homes. From DVDs to furniture and books to small appliances, and even construction materials such as hardware, lumber, and drywall – a wide array of items are expected to be up for grabs. The event not only provides an opportunity for old belongings to find new homes, but also significantly contributes to waste reduction efforts in the area.

To facilitate the process, individuals are urged to label their giveaway items with stickers or signs indicating they are free for the taking. However, it is essential to keep non-participating items separate from the giveaway items to avoid confusion.

In line with safety guidelines, the Consumer Product Safety Directorate of Health Canada advises against including items like cribs, car seats, strollers, bath seats, and playpens. Excluding these potentially unsafe items ensures the community’s well-being and the event’s success.

Participants are reminded that uncollected items should be promptly removed from the curb by the end of Sunday, Oct. 22, to prevent fines from bylaw enforcement agencies.
