Death investigation at scene of Quinte West fire now classified as homicide, victims identified

The Quinte West OPP have confirmed that an ongoing death investigation has been classified as a homicide.

The incident occurred on Sept. 20, at approximately 8 a.m., on Nichols Road in Quinte West. Initially, police responded to a residential fire at this location, alongside Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services.

There, they discovered the remains of two individuals within the building. The victims have been identified as Samantha Osypchuk, 54, and David Chard, 56, both residents of Quinte West.

Police say this event appears to be an isolated occurrence, with no immediate threat to public safety.

The investigation is being carried out by the Quinte West OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services. These efforts are being conducted under the guidance of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police say that at this time, no additional details will be disclosed to the public.
