Beware of driveway paving and construction scams in Belleville: city

The City of Belleville has issued an advisory to residents following reports of door-to-door driveway paving and construction scams.

Reports of these scams have surfaced throughout the city, a media release advises, some of which have suggested the alleged scammers are impersonating City of Belleville staff to solicit their driveway spraying, yard maintenance, and other services.

“We would like to take this opportunity to note that city staff do not go door-to-door selling services and remind residents to ensure they are doing their due diligence before hiring contractors,” the release states.

Some red flags include cash-only service and/or asking for cash up front; lack of proper equipment; and asphalt products produced far away.

The city is also reminding residents that road cut permits or occupancy permits are required while working on the city’s portion of a driveway.

Permits can be obtained through Permit Central. For more information, contact Transportation & Operations Services at 613-967-3275 or opgeneral@belleville.ca.
