Nicholson Catholic College in Belleville is looking to drop the “Crusader” nickname from the school’s sports teams and student body.

“As you are aware, the ‘Crusader’ name change is occurring as it no longer reflects the inclusive and diverse school community that we foster here at NCC,” the school says in a message to students, staff, alumni and community members.

Following discussions with students, the school is looking to gather an initial list of potential names, as well as general input. Once this input is received, a short list will be created, followed by a final vote.

“Student voice will continue be at the centre of our decision-making process,” the school says. The message adds that they look forward to hearing from anyone with a connection to the school.

“Please share your name suggestions as well as rationale,” the message states.

The rationale should include why this name has a tie to NCC’s school identity and values.
