Belleville woman charged after purse filled with drugs abandoned at north end business

On the evening of Nov. 22, Belleville Police Service responded to a call from a north end business reporting an abandoned purse containing illegal substances, a significant amount of cash, and a taser. The purse’s owner had reportedly left the items behind and later returned to retrieve it, triggering the involvement of police.

When officers arrived at the scene, the owner, identified as Mary Hennick, 35-years-old and a resident of Belleville, was taken into custody. Hennick faces charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking crystal meth, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of proceeds of crime exceeding $5,000.

Charges have not been proven in court.

Following her arrest, Hennick was released on an undertaking, with a scheduled court appearance slated for December 2023.
