Belleville woman charged after police witness her ‘actively assaulting her partner’

On Thursday, Jan. 25 at about 5:45 p.m., Belleville police responded to a residence in the west end of the city after a domestic disturbance was reported.

Police report in a media release that when officers arrived, “an adult female was actively assaulting her partner.”

The woman was taken into custody without incident.

Police continued the investigation and report that the suspect had also smashed joint property within the home during the dispute.

There were no reported physical injuries to the victim.

As a result of the investigation and the officer’s direct observations, a 59-year-old female from Belleville was arrested and charged with domestic assault and mischief.

She was later released on an undertaking with a court date in February.

The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
