Belleville resident facing sexual assault against minor, child porn charges

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has brought charges against an individual in connection with a case of sexual assault involving a child.

In a March 4 media release, police say that on Saturday, March 2, the Quinte West OPP, along with members of the Quinte West Crime Unit, conducted a search warrant with the support of the Belleville Police Service. This operation led to the apprehension of a suspect linked to a sexual assault inquiry.

A 21-year-old resident of Belleville faces the following charges:

  • Sexual interference (person under 16 years of age)
  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
  • Making, printing, publishing, or possessing child pornography for the purpose of publication
  • Possession of child pornography

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. The identity of the individual is being withheld to safeguard the privacy of the victim.
