On the evening of Oct. 31, Belleville police responded to a call reporting a hit-and-run incident involving a motor vehicle and a stop sign at the intersection of Earl and Coleman Streets.

Witnesses informed the police that the vehicle in question left the scene after the collision, leaving the stop sign toppled.

Prompt action by the police led to the discovery of the vehicle and its driver, identified as Mohit, a 23-year-old Belleville resident. Following an investigation, Mohit was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80, and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.

This charge has not been proven in court.

Mohit was subsequently released on an undertaking, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for later this month.
