Belleville police rescue stranded men east of Haig Road using thermal imaging

The Belleville Police Service reports that officers recently rescued two individuals using a drone equipped with thermal imaging technology.

In a media release, police say that on Monday, Jan. 29, at about 9 a.m., Belleville police responded to a call reporting two individuals lost in the woods/swampy area east of Haig Road. The caller informed authorities that he and his companion had been stranded for several hours.

In response, officers were deployed from the Emergency Response Unit on foot; they used a thermal imaging drone for aerial reconnaissance.

The drone successfully located the individuals approximately 500 meters east of Haig Road. Ground officers were then directed to their precise location.

Upon discovery, the two men were found to be cold but without any significant injuries. Paramedics assessed their condition at the scene, and as a precautionary measure, both individuals were transported to the hospital.
