Belleville police have issued an appeal to the public for assistance in identifying the driver of a motor vehicle that allegedly refused to stop for police.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Nov. 2, at approximately 2:30 a.m., when a Belleville police officer attempted to stop an older green Honda Civic in the city’s east end for a traffic violation.

According to police, the green Honda Civic, ignoring police signals, sped away, navigating the city streets at perilous speeds on two separate occasions. Law enforcement’s attempts to apprehend the vehicle were terminated in consideration of public safety, as the Civic’s erratic behaviour posed a significant threat to others on the road.

As part of their ongoing investigation, the police managed to procure what is believed to be a photograph of the driver. Authorities are now urging anyone with information about the individual depicted in the image to come forward. Constable Yanch, the investigating officer, can be reached via email at jyanch@bellevilleps.ca. Alternatively, individuals can provide tips anonymously by contacting Quinte Crime Stoppers.
