Belleville police arrest man on drug charges after cocaine, cash found in search

A traffic stop in Belleville recently led to an arrest, and cocaine and cash being seized.

Belleville police state in a media release that on May 30, officers with Project Renewal, with the assistance of the Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit, conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of Church Street and Victoria Avenue.

A Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was executed following the traffic stop at a residence in Belleville’s east end.

Police say that as a result of the investigation, officers arrested and charged Malcolm Murphy, 25, of Ajax and seized 228.2 grams of cocaine and $2,438.75 in Canadian currency.

Murphy was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Charges have not been proven in court.

Murphy was held for a bail hearing.
