Belleville police arrest man accused of attacking victims with pipe

Multiple victims suffered injuries in Belleville on Wednesday, June 5 after a bizarre incident involving a man attacking others with a steel tamper, the Belleville Police Service reports.

Police were called to the corner of Bridge Street East and Church Street at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a report of a male attacking people with a pipe.

When police arrived, they located three victims of the attack, who were treated by paramedics for minor injuries.

“Police learned that a male suspect became engaged in a verbal argument with the victims and then he grabbed a large steel tamper and began assaulting them with it,” the media release reads.

Police obtained a description of the suspect and located him a short distance away. He was arrested without incident and then transported to the Belleville Police Service, where he was lodged in a cell.

“While in custody, the male purposefully urinated all over the cell,” police state.

As a result of the police investigation, a 32-year-old Scarborough man was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of mischief.

He was held for a bail hearing.
