The Belleville Police Service arrested a local man for assault against an eight year old child; police say this man had been released on previous domestic related charges and was also breaching his release conditions.

Police say that on June 25, just after 3:30 p.m., officers, alongside members of the Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society began an investigation into the assault of an eight year old child who had come to school with bruising consistent with being assaulted.

“Following the investigation, police formed the grounds to arrest and charge a 39-year-old Belleville male for assault,” the release reads.

Police attended a residence in Belleville and located the male, where they learned that he had previously been released on domestic related charges and was not to be at the residence or have communication with others who were living there.

As a result, the male was arrested and charged with one count of assault and three counts of breaching his release conditions. He was held for a bail hearing.
