Belleville man awakens to find intruder in his home: police

In the early hours of the morning on Thursday, March 7, morning, a man living on Belleville’s College Street East experienced a startling intrusion into his living room, which he and his nine-year-old son were occupying at the time.

In a media release, the Belleville Police Service reports that the homeowner, who had nodded off on the couch, awoke to find an unfamiliar man observing them as they slept.

Upon being confronted, the intruder departed the premises, but remained in close to the front porch of the residence, prompting the man to alert police.

Officers arrived at the scene and apprehended a 37-year-old male, who is of no fixed address.

The individual was charged with unlawfully entering a dwelling and prowling by night.

He was detained pending a show cause hearing scheduled for later today.
