Belleville man arrested after allegedly trying to coerce woman into car

An arrest has been made in a Dec. 10 incident involving alleged criminal harassment in the vicinity of Dundas Street and Herchimer Avenue in Belleville.

On that day, an adult female reported that an unknown man in a champagne/beige sedan resembling a Toyota Camry had made repeated attempts to coerce her into his vehicle. The driver reportedly maneuvered onto the sidewalk and tried to persuade her by opening his car door.

On Friday, Dec. 15, members of the Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigations Division apprehended 79-year-old Thomas Boyle, a resident of Belleville, in connection with this incident. Boyle faced charges related to criminal harassment and three breaches of probation conditions. Charges have not been proven in court. He was detained pending a scheduled bail hearing.

The Criminal Investigations Division is actively pursuing leads on several other analogous complaints. In light of these ongoing inquiries, they urge any individuals who may have been subjected to similar incidents to come forward and assist in the investigation.
