Assault charge laid after parking ticket leads to altercation in Picton: OPP

A Bloomfield resident has been charged with assault following an altercation with a parking enforcement officer after a ticket was issued in downtown Picton, OPP report.

Prince Edward County OPP say on Tuesday, Sept. 1 that officers responded to the incident on Thursday, Aug. 27.

According to police, the altercation occurred after a parking enforcement officer issued a parking infraction notice to a vehicle.

Following an investigation, Caley Mouland, 47, of Bloomfield, was charged with assault.

This charge has not been proven in court.

Mouland was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Oct. 7.

“The OPP reminds the public that municipal enforcement officers and other public-facing workers play an important role in maintaining safe communities,” police say in the release. “Disagreements with enforcement decisions should be addressed through the appropriate administrative or complaint channels and should never escalate to threats, aggression, or violence. Anyone who assaults, threatens, or obstructs a person who is lawfully carrying out their duties may face criminal charges.”
