Alleged muffin thief charged by Belleville police

Belleville police conducted a two-hour search for a robbery suspect accused of stealing muffins on the evening of Saturday, May 27.

In a media release, police say that the suspect is accused of “decking an employee of a north end business while stealing muffins.”

Police say the employee was attempting to stop a woman from leaving the property with stolen baked goods when they were punched in the face.

Officers were able to identify the suspect after reviewing store video, and located and arrested her a couple of hours later.

Charged with robbery is Rose Uwimana, 49, of no fixed address. This charge has not been proven in court.

Uwimana was released on an undertaking with conditions shortly after her arrest and provided a court date of July 11 to face the charge.
