Typically the recipient of gifts, the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation (TMHF) participated in the recent “Giving Tuesday” with gifts of its own.
The foundation at Quinte Health Care’s Trenton hospital site marked Nov. 28, which is Giving Tuesday, by thanking its donors and supporting its staff in special ways. Giving Tuesday is a day set aside globally to celebrate giving and generosity.
“It’s the opening day of the giving season — it’s a time when people join together and rally for their favourite causes,” the TMHF said.
“And, while the (TMHF) is in the business of asking for gifts, they also like to give back to the community they serve.”
The TMHF held on Giving Tuesday a staff appreciation day for hospital employees and conducted a “thank-a-thon,” which involved volunteers helping foundation staff contact donors and express appreciation.
“It gives us a great sense of pride to give back to the community that supports our hospital throughout the year,” said Wendy Warner, the TMHF’s executive director.
Throughout the year, the TMHF said it supports the hospital’s staff through its shining stars program, which recognizes employees who provide exceptionally compassionate patient care. The foundation also supports a family in June with an annual staff appreciation barbecue.
The Kay Stafford Fund, which is managed by the foundation, has given more than $2 million to 85 local organizations in the community since 1997, despite the initial gift being $1.2 million. Through the Kay Stafford Fund, the TMHF supports staff education grants, provides high school and college bursaries to students enrolling in post-secondary health care education, and gives grants to local non-profit organizations and service clubs that support the hospital.
“We hope you will consider participating…by giving one of the greatest gifts of all, the gift of health care, by supporting the TMHF,” reads the media release.
