2 charged in series of commercial property crimes in Quinte West

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at the Quinte West Detachment have made progress in solving a series of commercial property crimes with the arrest of two individuals.

After an investigation initiated in October 2023, involving Quinte West OPP and the Community Street Crime Unit, two suspects were apprehended on Nov. 14 with the help of the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Paul Helm, 52, from Quinte West, faces charges including theft (six counts), mischief (six counts), break and enter, possession of break-in tools, possession of stolen property, failure to comply with a release order, and breach of probation.

Tanya Cooper, 45, also from Quinte West, is charged with possession of stolen property, possession of break-in tools, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Charges have not been proven in court.

Both accused individuals were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. This arrest signifies a step forward in combating property-related offenses in Quinte West.
